Amazon EventBridge's Custom Event Bus Just Got a Major Relaunch!
Hey, it's me, Shiichan! Following up on that last EventBridge story, here's the official AWS What's New announcement too!
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
Amazon EventBridge's custom event bus has relaunched as the "Enhanced Custom event bus," letting you build event-driven applications that decouple teams while scaling with your organization.
The story so far
The custom event bus has long served as a serverless event broker, routing events between your applications, SaaS integrations, and AWS services. This relaunch bundles in the enterprise-scale capabilities people wanted, like multi-account sharing and ordering guarantees.
What changes
- Share an event bus with one or more accounts via AWS Resource Access Manager; publishers can send events directly to the shared central bus
- A new event publishing API lets you publish popular JSON-based event formats, like CloudEvents, without modifying their schema
- Built-in retention of 24 hours by default, extendable up to a year, for recovering from application errors or hydrating new components from historical data
- A new Subscriber resource filters events and delivers them to over 250 AWS services
- Native support for strictly ordered processing, plus automatic content-based deduplication
To get started, just create and share a new Custom event bus through the AWS Management Console, CLI, SDKs, the Serverless Agent skill, or AWS CloudFormation.
Dive Deep
It's available across 14 Regions: 3 in North America (N. Virginia, Ohio, Oregon), 4 in Europe (Ireland, Frankfurt, Stockholm, Spain), and 7 in Asia Pacific (Tokyo, Singapore, Sydney, Malaysia, Thailand, Mumbai, Hong Kong). Pricing also moved from a per-event model to one based on data transfer, designed for better cost efficiency at scale.
Wrap-up
- EventBridge's custom event bus has relaunched as an "Enhanced" version
- Supports cross-account sharing, strict ordering guarantees, automatic deduplication, and delivery to 250+ services
- Built-in retention starts at 24 hours and extends up to a year
- Available in 14 Regions, with pricing now based on data transfer
- Try it out right away from the console, CLI, SDK, or CloudFormation!
