Redshift Serverless Gets 3-Year All Upfront Pricing — Up to 50% Off!

Hi, I'm Shii-chan!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

Today I found a nice cost-optimization update for Amazon Redshift Serverless!

What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, Amazon Redshift Serverless Serverless Reservations now offer a new 3-year All Upfront payment option. By paying the full amount upfront, you get up to 50% savings compared to on-demand rates.

The story so far

Until now, Serverless Reservations only came with three payment options:

  • 1-year, No Upfront
  • 1-year, All Upfront
  • 3-year, No Upfront

If you wanted to commit for three years, you could only choose No Upfront — there was no way to prepay in full for the longest term and grab the deepest discount.

What changes

With the new 3-year All Upfront option, teams that already know they'll run Redshift Serverless for the long haul can pay everything up front and get the maximum discount. It gives finance and infrastructure teams more flexibility to match the payment timing and discount level to their own budgeting policy.

Dive Deep

This new pricing option is available in every AWS commercial Region and AWS GovCloud (US) Region where Amazon Redshift Serverless is available. You can purchase it from the Amazon Redshift console or through the Serverless Reservations API, so teams managing cost through infrastructure-as-code can wire it in too.

Just like the other plans, any usage beyond your reserved RPUs (Redshift Processing Units) is billed at the standard on-demand rate.

Wrap-up

  • Serverless Reservations now include a 3-year, All Upfront option
  • Up to 50% savings compared to on-demand pricing
  • Purchasable from the console or via API
  • Available everywhere Redshift Serverless runs, including GovCloud (US)

If you're committed to Redshift Serverless for the long term and want to squeeze out every bit of cost savings, this update is for you!
