AWS Transform adds storage migration assessments for S3, EBS, EFS, and FSx!
Hi, it's Shii-chan! Today's news is for anyone planning a storage migration: an AWS Transform update!
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
AWS announced in What's New that migration assessments in AWS Transform now evaluate on-premises storage for migration to AWS.
The story so far
According to the announcement, you used to have to manually analyze thousands of volumes across protocols, capacity, and performance. Now you upload a storage inventory and AWS Transform does the mapping for you.
What changes
Here's what AWS Transform does for you:
- Matches each workload to the best-fit service
- Sizes the recommendation
- Projects costs to produce a total cost of ownership (TCO) business case
Dive Deep
What you can bring
- NAS shares, SAN LUNs, direct-attached disks, or backup repositories
- Via a NetApp Digital Advisor export, an RVTools file, or other inventory
Where workloads are routed
- Amazon S3
- Amazon EBS
- Amazon EFS
- Amazon FSx (NetApp ONTAP, Windows File Server, OpenZFS, Lustre)
What-if scenarios
You can compare deployment options such as Single-AZ vs. Multi-AZ, or cost-optimized vs. performance-optimized. You can also ask follow-up questions about any result in chat.
Availability
Storage migration assessments are available in all AWS Regions where AWS Transform is available. See the AWS Transform User Guide for details!
Wrap-up
- AWS Transform migration assessments now cover on-premises storage
- Upload an inventory to get best-fit mapping to S3 / EBS / EFS / FSx, sizing, and a TCO business case
- Compare what-if scenarios and ask follow-up questions in chat
This is for infrastructure teams planning a storage migration to the cloud!
