Claude Cowork finally arrives on mobile and web!

What was announced?

On the Claude Blog, Anthropic announced that Claude Cowork is coming to mobile and web. Cowork is where you hand Claude a task and it works across your files, calendar, email, messaging app, the web, and your other connected tools until the job is done. Until now that meant sitting at the desktop app; today's news is about bringing that same Cowork experience to your phone and browser.

The story so far

Anthropic looked at how Cowork is actually being used, and found that more than 90% of usage isn't software development at all, it's everyday knowledge work. The two biggest categories, business operations and content creation, together make up roughly half of all usage. Examples given include reconciling the quarter's spend and drafting the variance memo, turning a folder of contracts into a renewals tracker with risks flagged, and building tomorrow's client deck from call transcripts and pipeline data. Anthropic calls this "the work around the work," tasks that rarely show up in anyone's job description but eat up a big chunk of everyone's week.

Until now, that kind of task meant being at your desktop app.

What changes

This update brings three changes:

• Your work follows you: start a task at your desk, check on it from your phone, and pick up the finished output from anywhere.
• Work continues in the background: closing your laptop no longer stops the job, and scheduled tasks now run with no device online at all. For example, schedule client prep for Monday at 6am, and Claude works through email threads, transcripts, and recent news, builds the briefing doc, and leaves a follow-up email drafted (but unsent) for you to review over coffee.
• The decisions still come to you: when Claude reaches a call only you can make, it asks, and that question reaches your phone. You can redirect a draft mid-task or mid-meeting and Claude adapts. Nothing ships without your review and approval.

On the interface side, chat and Cowork now share one home on web and desktop, with projects and artifacts living together across both.

Dive Deep

This is rolling out in beta over the next several weeks, starting with Max plan subscribers, with more plans to follow. Desktop stays the place for deep work and keeps the full Cowork experience, including access to local files and the browser, meaning mobile and web will likely have a somewhat lighter feature set for now.

People who previously couldn't install the desktop app can now use Cowork through mobile or web instead, a nice side benefit.

Armmand Hosseini, on the Customer Success team at Ramp, shared this:

I built a dashboard to track my clients while traveling. I started on my laptop and picked the session up on my phone while waiting for my bag to come out. It just held the thread.

That's a pretty perfect illustration of "your work follows you," picking up a laptop session on your phone while waiting at baggage claim.

Getting started is simple:

• Web: start a Cowork session from the home screen at claude.ai.
• Mobile: open Cowork from the sidebar of the Claude app on iOS or Android.
• Desktop: download the Claude desktop app for the full experience.

To mark the launch, Anthropic is also extending doubled Cowork usage limits through August 5, giving you extra room to try bigger tasks.
