Anthropic rolls out four role-based Claude certifications!

What was announced?

According to the Claude Blog, Anthropic announced four role-based certifications for people who put Claude to work for customers. The official title is "Four role-based certifications for the people who put Claude to work for customers." Each certification is clearly mapped to a specific role.

Here are the four certifications:

• Claude Certified Associate: Foundations (new) — for consultants, project leads, and business or technical professionals. It validates practical, everyday use of Claude
• Claude Certified Developer: Foundations (new) — for engineers building applications with the Claude API. It covers the API, tool use, and agent development
• Claude Certified Architect: Professional (new) — for advanced practitioners working at enterprise scale, covering integration architecture, governance, and evaluation
• Claude Certified Architect: Foundations (existing) — for solution architects who design and build agentic systems with Claude

Why it matters

Anthropic says its goal is to become the leader in AI enablement. In support of that, it launched the Claude Partner Network in March alongside a $100 million investment, and added a Services Track in June. Since then, more than 36,000 people across 1,300+ organizations have earned certifications, and over 400,000 people complete training every year.

Those numbers keep growing, but until now the certifications weren't clearly split by role. Now that four role-specific credentials exist, it's much clearer who can prove what.

What changes

You can now pick the certification that matches your actual job. Consultants go for Associate, developers go for Developer, and those handling large-scale design work go for one of the Architect tracks. Skills get validated based on the role you actually perform.

For companies, the number of certified people also affects a partner's rank within the Claude Partner Network, so it becomes a signal of how deep a partner's Claude expertise really is. Major partners have set big targets: Accenture aims for 50,000 certified people, Capgemini for 20,000, Deloitte for 15,000, and PwC for 30,000. Those numbers are honestly pretty impressive!

Dive Deep

The blog also shared details on how the exams work. Every exam is proctored, meaning it's taken under supervision, and delivered through Pearson Professional Assessments, with identity verification required. Once you pass, you receive a digital badge through Credly by Pearson.

There are also clear criteria for partner tiers. To reach the top Global Premier tier, a partner needs 1,000+ certified practitioners, 100+ customers across three regions, and 15 public customer testimonials. The next benchmark review date is October 1.
