5 Hours a Day, Gone: Inside Anthropic's Sales Team's Claude Cowork Workflow

Hi there, it's Shiichan! Today I found a blog post where Anthropic's own team talks candidly about how they use Claude in their sales workflow. I love a good dogfooding story.

What was announced?

Anthropic's Claude Blog shared a post from business development rep John Albert about how he uses Claude Cowork to run both inbound and outbound sales work, combining skills and scheduled tasks to automate his day-to-day workflow.

The story so far

Albert describes how things used to be:

I would spend around 5 hours per day manually responding to inbound interest

That's roughly 5 hours a day spent hand-crafting replies to inbound interest, time that could otherwise go toward more strategic sales work.

What changes

The foundation was a "sales knowledge base" document covering frequently asked questions and answers. On top of that, an inbox skill that runs every hour drafts replies using that knowledge base, and it's learned Albert's own writing style, so the drafts sound like him.

The outbound side changed just as much. As Albert puts it:

On average, I work upwards of a hundred accounts at any given time

He now manages upwards of a hundred accounts on average. Overnight scheduled tasks handle detailed research on each account ahead of time, so by morning the groundwork is already done before he starts outreach.

Dive Deep

The research and drafting work pulls from multiple sales tools, including Salesforce, Apollo, Common Room, and Gong. On top of that, the post covers a few additional workflows:

  • Auto-generating scorecards from discovery call content
  • Suggesting CRM (Salesforce) updates automatically
  • Generating usage analytics reports
  • Pulling out accounts that should be invited to events

The post also shares practical recommendations for anyone building similar workflows:

  • Build a sales knowledge base first, then roll out workflows on top of it
  • Provide context like team examples and your ideal customer profile (ICP)
  • Always have a human review anything before it's sent
  • Build skills in a way the whole team can reuse

The "always have a human review before sending" point in particular is called out as a line that stays firm even as automation expands.

  • He used to spend 5 hours a day manually handling inbound replies
  • An hourly inbox skill now drafts replies in his own voice, and overnight tasks pre-research 100+ accounts
  • Integrations with Salesforce, Apollo, Common Room, and Gong power scorecards, CRM update suggestions, and more
  • Success comes down to a solid knowledge base, good context, human review, and team-shareable skills
