Hey everyone, it's me! I've got good news today for anyone running Cloudflare's DNS Firewall!

What was announced?

According to the Cloudflare Changelog, DNS Firewall analytics are now available directly in the Cloudflare dashboard. Before this, you could already pull the same data through the GraphQL API, but now you can see it as interactive charts right inside the dashboard.

The story so far

Until now, if you wanted a detailed view of your DNS Firewall query activity, you had to query the GraphQL API yourself and build your own visualizations. The dashboard alone didn't give you a full picture, which made it a bit of a hurdle for anyone who wasn't comfortable working with the API.

What changes

With this update, anyone subscribed to DNS Firewall can now see analytics in the dashboard right away, with no extra setup required. You don't need to be an engineer who's comfortable calling APIs anymore — you can just glance at your DNS operations status directly.

Dive Deep

The dashboard ships with four interactive panels:

  • Query summary: shows trends over time, segmented by dimensions
  • Query statistics: shows total queries, the split between cached and uncached queries, plus processing and response times
  • DNS queries by data center: shows a global view plus the top 10 data centers by query volume
  • Top query statistics: shows a breakdown by key dimensions with search and expand options (up to the top 100 items)

What's especially handy is that filters and the selected time range apply across all four panels at once. You can filter by:

  • Query name
  • Query type
  • Cluster
  • Data center
  • Protocol
  • IP version
  • Response code

You can also look back at up to 62 days of historical data, which is great if you want to track longer-term trends.

This feature is included in every existing DNS Firewall subscription, so all DNS Firewall customers get access at no additional cost.
