Building Gateway rules and Access apps just got a whole lot smoother!

What was announced?

Cloudflare's Changelog announced that two builders in the Cloudflare One dashboard have been refreshed. One is the Gateway rule builder for creating Gateway policies, and the other is the Access application builder for configuring self-hosted Access applications. Both got their creation flows cleaned up.

The story so far

Until now, the screens for creating Gateway rules and Access policies looked and felt different from each other. Setting up an Access app also took quite a few steps, needing lots of clicks from setup to save. Even inside the same Cloudflare One, having a different vibe on each screen made it easy to get a little lost.

What changes

The Gateway rule builder now matches the feel of the Access policy builder, with clearer states that are easier to follow. You can also view and edit Traffic policies directly as wirefilter expressions, and there's a new preview state that shows a simple graphic of your policy's impact before you save.

On the Access side, creating a self-hosted application now takes fewer steps, so you can build and save with fewer clicks.
