What was announced?

Cloudflare's changelog announced a new feature called Cloudflare Drop. Listed under Workers, it lets you deploy a static site just by uploading a folder or zip file containing static assets (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, and fonts), with no Cloudflare account required to get started.

Once you upload, you get a temporary live preview that stays live for one hour. During that window you can test the site, share the preview URL with others, and if you like it, you can "claim" the deployment to make it permanent.

Why it matters

Normally, trying out a cloud service starts with creating an account and picking a plan before you can do anything. That's a real hurdle even when all you want to do is show someone a quick demo site. Cloudflare Drop removes that first hurdle entirely, giving you a live, clickable URL the moment you upload. Being able to "show it first, decide later" is genuinely useful when you need fast feedback.

What changes

When you're ready to make the deployment permanent, you click Claim and either sign in to an existing Cloudflare account or create a new one. If you're creating a new account, you'll need to verify your email address.

After claiming the site, you get access to:

  • Connecting an existing domain, or purchasing a new one
  • Enabling observability to monitor the site's performance and usage
  • Enabling Markdown for Agents, so AI agents can read the site's content in Markdown
  • Access controls to make the site private or restrict who can view it
