What was announced?

Cloudflare's Changelog announced that the Device Monitoring page in Digital Experience Monitoring (DEX) just got a big upgrade. DEX is the feature that gives you visibility into device, network, and application performance when you're using Cloudflare One, Cloudflare's SASE product suite.

With this update, the page now analyzes hardware and network data between a device running the Cloudflare One Client and Cloudflare's edge, making it easier to diagnose connectivity and performance issues.

The story so far

Until now, this kind of data was only available in raw DEX Device State Event logs, so you had to build your own analytics on top just to make sense of it. Staring at logs to hunt down the root cause was honestly a pretty tedious job.

What changes

A summary at the top of the page now shows the health of each category with Good, Fair, and Poor labels, across four areas:

  • Connection — connection status, Cloudflare One Client mode, and tunnel type over time
  • Wi-Fi signal strength — signal measured in dBm over time, with thresholds that flag a weak signal
  • Traffic performance — upstream and downstream performance, including network throughput on the active interface
  • Device health — hardware metrics like CPU, memory, and disk

You can also filter by category and adjust the time range, so you can correlate a user's reported issue with the device's actual metrics. IT teams should now be able to answer reports like a Wi-Fi connection dropping from remote workers a lot faster.
