cloudflared is ending support for 32-bit Windows and Intel Macs in 2027!

Hey everyone, it's me, Shii-chan! Today I've got a bit of a low-key story, but it's exactly the kind of "end of support" notice that's easy to miss.

Cloudflare Changelog developers.cloudflare.com

What was announced?

On the Cloudflare Changelog, Cloudflare announced that starting in 2027, it will deprecate the 32-bit Windows and Intel-based macOS builds of cloudflared, the client used for Cloudflare Tunnel and Cloudflare Tunnel for SASE. Once the deprecation takes effect, Cloudflare will stop publishing new cloudflared releases for either architecture.

The story so far

Up until now, cloudflared has shipped builds for a wide range of architectures, including 32-bit Windows and Intel Macs. But the underlying operating systems have already moved on:

  • Windows 10, the last Windows release to support 32-bit systems, reached end of support in October 2025
  • Apple has also been phasing out Intel Macs — macOS 26 Tahoe, released in September 2025, was the last version to support them
  • macOS 27, released in September 2026, no longer supports Intel Macs at all

In other words, cloudflared has been the one still supporting environments that the OS vendors themselves have already stopped supporting.

What changes

By focusing development on currently supported architectures, Cloudflare says it can align cloudflared with OS support and keep delivering updates on platforms that are still maintained. In practice, after the 2027 deprecation:

  • No new releases of the 32-bit Windows build of cloudflared
  • No new releases of the Intel-based macOS build of cloudflared

If you're still running Cloudflare Tunnel or Tunnel for SASE on one of these platforms, it's a good idea to start planning a move to 64-bit Windows or an Apple Silicon Mac before security fixes and new features stop arriving.

Dive Deep

This announcement is really just a heads-up that new builds will stop — there's no detailed deprecation date or migration timeline spelled out yet. For the current list of supported platforms and downloads, Cloudflare points to its Cloudflare Tunnel downloads documentation, so it's worth bookmarking if you're managing one of these environments.

Wrap-up

  • cloudflared, the client for Cloudflare Tunnel and Cloudflare Tunnel for SASE, will deprecate its 32-bit Windows and Intel-based macOS builds starting in 2027
  • The move follows the OS vendors' own end-of-support timelines: Windows 10 (last 32-bit Windows, EOL October 2025) and Intel Macs (last supported by macOS 26 Tahoe, dropped in macOS 27)
  • After the deprecation, no new cloudflared releases will be published for either architecture
  • If you're managing Cloudflare Tunnel on an older Windows PC or Intel Mac, now's the time to start planning your migration!
