R2 bandwidth, now clearly split into uploads and downloads!
Hi everyone, it's me, Shii-chan! Today I've got a dashboard update that R2 users will appreciate.
Cloudflare ChangelogWhat was announced?
On the Cloudflare Changelog, Cloudflare announced that R2's product-level Metrics page in the dashboard now shows bandwidth usage. You can find it under "R2 Metrics," and you can view usage across all your buckets at once or drill down into a single bucket. Bandwidth is broken out separately for object upload and download.
The same data is also exposed through the GraphQL Analytics API, so you can pull it into your own queries and dashboards.
Why it matters
R2 already had dashboard metrics, but this update pulls bandwidth usage into a clear, product-level view. As you use more storage, it gets more useful to know which buckets are driving the most traffic, and separating upload from download makes it easier to narrow down where a spike is coming from.
What changes
Teams running R2 can now open the dashboard and see, per bucket, how much bandwidth they're using right now. It's a good first signal if a bucket's download traffic suddenly spikes, or if you suspect an upload-side bottleneck. And since the same numbers are available via the GraphQL Analytics API, you can wire them into your own dashboards or alerts too.
Wrap-up
- R2's Metrics page now shows bandwidth usage
- View it across all buckets or per bucket
- Upload and download bandwidth are broken out separately
- The same data is available through the GraphQL Analytics API for your own analysis
- A nice update if your team wants to keep an eye on R2 traffic day to day
