Hi everyone, Shii-chan here! The DynamoDB cache DAX just expanded to a lot more places!
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
According to AWS What's New, Amazon DynamoDB Accelerator (DAX) is now available in 17 additional AWS Regions.
The new Regions are:
- Asia Pacific (Hong Kong)
- Asia Pacific (Hyderabad)
- Asia Pacific (Jakarta)
- Asia Pacific (Malaysia)

Why it matters
DAX is a fully managed, highly available, in-memory cache for Amazon DynamoDB. It delivers up to 10 times performance improvement, from single-digit milliseconds to microseconds, even at millions of requests per second.
What changes
Customers in these Regions can now meet local data residency and low-latency requirements while using DAX.
- Accelerate read-intensive and bursty workloads such as real-time bidding, gaming leaderboards, and retail product catalogs
- Offload read traffic from your DynamoDB tables
- No need to manage your own cache infrastructure
Dive Deep
DAX is API-compatible with DynamoDB, so you can add microsecond-latency caching with minimal code changes. Operations such as patching, failover, and scaling are managed automatically.
For the full list of Regions, see resources such as AWS Capabilities by Region.
Wrap-up
- DAX is now in 17 more AWS Regions
- Up to 10x faster, with microsecond reads
- API-compatible with DynamoDB, so code changes are minimal
- Fully managed operations
This is for anyone running read-heavy DynamoDB workloads in the new Regions!
