See RDS Snapshot Costs One by One with Per Snapshot Billing!
Hi, it's Shii-chan! You can finally see which snapshots your backup spend is going to!
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
In AWS What's New, AWS announced that Amazon RDS now supports per snapshot billing for RDS snapshots. It lets you get the cost of each individual snapshot.
The story so far
Previously, RDS snapshot charges were aggregated at the database instance level in the Cost and Usage report and Cost Explorer. You could see the aggregate for an instance, but not drill down to each snapshot.
What changes
With cost allocation tags on your snapshots, you can see exactly how much each snapshot costs. That gives you a better understanding of your backup spend and budgets.
If you've wondered which old snapshot is costing the most, this update is for you!
Dive Deep
Here are the conditions.
- Enabled by default on all RDS snapshots
- No additional charge
- Covers all Amazon RDS engines
- Available in all commercial AWS Regions and the AWS GovCloud (US) Regions
The key is to use cost allocation tags. See the documentation for details.
