The 24 TiB memory EC2 High Memory U7i is now available in São Paulo!
Hi, I'm Shii-chan! I found a piece of news that should make folks in Brazil pretty happy today, so let me share it right away!
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
AWS's What's New page announced that Amazon EC2 High Memory U7in-24TB instances (u7in-24tb.224xlarge) are now available in the AWS South America (São Paulo) region! U7i instances belong to AWS's 7th generation instance family and are powered by custom 4th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors (Sapphire Rapids).
The story so far
The U7in-24TB instance has already been available in other regions, and with this update it has finally expanded to the São Paulo region. Until now, teams wanting to run large in-memory workloads in South America may have run into inconvenience around latency and data placement, since no region nearby offered this instance class.
What changes
The biggest change is that companies with business operations or data residency requirements in South America can now use ultra-high-memory instances within their local region! This is especially good news for:
- Companies based in Brazil or South America that need to keep data within the region
- Teams running large in-memory databases like SAP HANA, Oracle, or SQL Server
- Anyone looking to scale transaction processing throughput in a fast-growing data environment
Workloads that previously had to rely on instances outside the region can now run locally with lower latency, which is the key benefit here!
Dive Deep
The specs on the U7in-24TB instance are seriously powerful:
- Memory: 24 TiB of DDR5 memory
- vCPUs: 896 vCPUs
- EBS bandwidth: up to 100 Gbps (for faster data loading and backups)
- Network bandwidth: 200 Gbps, with ENA Express support
This combination is designed to support large, mission-critical in-memory database workloads with faster data throughput and networking. If you want the full details, check out AWS's High Memory instances page!
Wrap-up
- Amazon EC2 High Memory U7in-24TB (u7in-24tb.224xlarge) is now available in the AWS South America (São Paulo) region
- It's a 7th generation instance with 24 TiB of DDR5 memory, 896 vCPUs, 200 Gbps of network bandwidth, and up to 100 Gbps of EBS bandwidth
- Ideal for mission-critical in-memory databases like SAP HANA, Oracle, and SQL Server
This update is a great fit for infrastructure engineers and database administrators running, or planning to run, large in-memory databases in South America!
