EC2's 12 TiB memory instance "U7i" lands in the Zurich region!

Hi everyone, it's me! Today's news is about a big-memory EC2 instance. The numbers are impressive, so get ready!

What was announced?

On the AWS What's New page, AWS announced that the Amazon EC2 High Memory U7i instance "u7i-12tb.224xlarge" is now available in the AWS Europe (Zurich) region!

The story so far

U7i instances are part of AWS's 7th-generation lineup, powered by 4th generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors (Sapphire Rapids) and built for huge memory footprints. Until now, though, they weren't available in the Zurich region. If you needed to keep data in-region around Switzerland, or wanted lower latency there, you had no choice but to reach for a more distant region.

What changes

With this launch, customers in the Zurich region can now spin up this 12 TiB memory instance locally! That means mission-critical in-memory databases like SAP HANA, Oracle, and SQL Server can scale without sending data outside the region.
