MSK Connect and Glue Schema Registry come to the AWS European Sovereign Cloud!

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! The Kafka toolbox in the sovereign cloud is filling up.

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

AWS What's New says Amazon MSK Connect and the AWS Glue Schema Registry are now available in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud (Germany) Region. Amazon MSK Standard brokers were already available there, so you now have a more complete set of tools for streaming workloads.

What changes

On the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, you get tools to build, connect, and govern your Apache Kafka applications.

Dive Deep

The two newly available services:

  • Amazon MSK Connect: run fully managed Kafka Connect clusters. Deploy, monitor, and scale connectors that move data between Kafka and external systems like databases, file systems, and search indices. No infrastructure to provision, with automatic scaling and pay-as-you-go pricing
  • AWS Glue Schema Registry: a serverless, free feature of AWS Glue that validates and controls the evolution of streaming data using Apache Avro, JSON, and Protobuf schemas

Schema Registry acts as a centralized repository for data format and structure across decoupled applications, reducing validation logic, cross-team coordination, and downstream failures. It integrates with C# and Java applications built for Amazon MSK, Amazon Kinesis Data Streams, Amazon Managed Service for Apache Flink, and AWS Lambda.

To get started, see the Amazon MSK Developer Guide and the AWS Glue Schema Registry documentation.

Wrap-up

  • MSK Connect and Glue Schema Registry are available in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud (Germany)
  • Together with MSK Standard brokers, your Kafka setup is more complete
  • MSK Connect runs connectors without infrastructure work; Schema Registry manages Avro, JSON, and Protobuf schemas

Good news if you're building streaming platforms on the sovereign cloud!
