Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! I checked out an Amazon RDS update today, so let me give you the quick rundown!

What was announced?

This comes from AWS What's New. Amazon RDS for SQL Server now supports the latest Cumulative Update (CU) for Microsoft SQL Server. This release adds support for Microsoft SQL Server 2025 CU6 KB5093421, which maps to RDS engine version 17.00.4055.5.v1.

The story so far

Amazon RDS for SQL Server has been keeping pace with the CUs Microsoft ships, bringing the same fixes and improvements into the managed service. With this update, the supported version catches up to the latest CU6.

What changes

You can now upgrade your RDS for SQL Server instances to CU6. For the details of what's fixed and improved in KB5093421, check Microsoft's documentation. AWS recommends upgrading your instances to pick up these updates.

You can upgrade using any of these three options:

  • Amazon RDS Management Console
  • AWS SDK
  • AWS CLI
