AWS Interconnect goes GA with OCI, multicloud connectivity made simple!

What was announced?

This comes from AWS What's New: AWS Interconnect - multicloud now has general availability (GA) support for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). AWS Interconnect - multicloud is a purpose-built service for connecting AWS directly to other cloud providers.

The story so far

More companies are adopting multicloud strategies, but until now, connecting workloads across multiple cloud providers meant going the "do-it-yourself" route for your network. Even if you wanted interoperability or the freedom to pick the best technology for the job, building and operating a multi-layered global network yourself was a lot of work.

What changes

With AWS Interconnect - multicloud, you can now quickly provision resilient, scalable private connections to other cloud providers. OCI joined as a public preview back in May, and with this GA launch, you get the same consistent, simple experience connecting to OCI as you already do with Google Cloud. Microsoft Azure is planned to launch later in 2026.

Dive Deep

The service is built on an open specification that's published on GitHub. Right now, Interconnect with OCI is available in the us-east-1 (N. Virginia) Region, and you can create one through the AWS Management Console, CLI, or API.

What I find interesting is the idea itself, connecting multiple cloud providers on top of an open spec. I'm curious to see which other clouds pick up this spec next.
