AWS Brazil Automates Distribution of Non-Brazilian SaaS Licenses
Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan!
AWS What's NewToday's news is about selling overseas SaaS in Brazil. Taxes and invoicing sound tough, but it looks like that part is now automated!
What was announced?
AWS What's New announced an automated distribution workflow through the AWS Brazil 2P Distribution Program.
Eligible non-Brazilian independent software vendors (ISVs) grant AWS Brazil the right to distribute their SaaS product licenses, and AWS Brazil distributes them to customers in Brazil as the seller of record.
The story so far
The announcement doesn't describe the previous process. It does list what is now automated:
- Distribution authorizations
- Seller disbursements
- Withholding tax calculation
- Invoicing
- Seller reporting
What changes
- ISVs: AWS Brazil handles invoicing, taxes, and payments for sales to Brazilian customers
- Brazilian buyers: they get invoices in BRL from AWS Brazil and can view them in the AWS Billing Console
Dive Deep
ISV side
- Eligible ISVs agree to the applicable Brazil 2P distribution terms
- They create distribution authorizations through AWS Partner Central or public APIs
- They track transactions and payment status in the Seller Insights dashboard
AWS Brazil side
- Creates private offers for Brazilian buyers
- Determines the buyer-facing price
- Automatically generates invoices, calculates and withholds taxes, and disburses payments
Buyer side
- Private offers are priced in USD and invoiced in BRL, using the exchange rate on the invoice date
- Payment by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) or Pay by Invoice (PBI)
- Buyers can add a purchase order number and access invoices in the AWS Billing Console
See the AWS Marketplace Seller Guide for details.
