Multi-Angle Viewing Without Re-Encoding! AWS Elemental Introduces Dynamic Multiview

Hi everyone, it's me, Shiichan! Today's news has a clever bit of live video engineering behind it.

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

AWS What's New announced Dynamic Multiview, a new server-side capability in AWS Elemental MediaPackage that composes multiple live video sources into viewer-selected tiled layouts on demand.

Why it matters

Content providers have long wanted to offer multi-angle, multi-game, and personalized viewing experiences, but doing so usually meant custom player development or SDK integration, which limited which devices could support it. Dynamic Multiview delivers standard HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) and DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) streams, so it plays natively on most modern consumer devices, TVs, and set-top boxes with no custom player work required.

What changes

The cleverest part is that Dynamic Multiview operates entirely in the compressed domain, combining individually encoded sources without re-encoding or compositing.

  • Each source only needs to be encoded once, through AWS Elemental MediaLive
  • MediaPackage assembles compositions on demand — only when a viewer actually requests them, instead of pre-encoding every combination
  • Because the output is standard HLS and DASH, it plays on existing devices and players with no app changes or SDK integration

Dive Deep

It supports AVC and HEVC codecs, DRM encryption, SCTE-35 ad marker passthrough, and full-screen ad replacement. See the Elemental Dynamic Multiview Reference Guide for details. Dynamic Multiview is available in every AWS region where AWS Elemental MediaPackage and MediaLive are available.

Wrap-up

  • AWS Elemental MediaPackage now offers Dynamic Multiview, composing multiple live sources into viewer-selected tiled layouts.
  • It stays in the compressed domain, so composition happens without re-encoding — a genuinely clever trick.
  • Output is standard HLS/DASH, so existing devices and players work with no custom development.
  • It supports AVC/HEVC, DRM encryption, and SCTE-35 passthrough.
  • A great fit for broadcasters and streaming platforms wanting multi-angle or personalized viewing experiences.
