AWS Marketplace Private Offers Get Auto-Renewal!
Hello, it's me! Today's update from AWS Marketplace is a bit unglamorous, but genuinely useful.
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
According to AWS What's New, AWS Marketplace now supports auto-renewals for private offers. This lets subscriptions continue automatically when a contract term ends, without sellers and buyers having to re-negotiate or re-purchase.
The story so far
Until now, every time a private offer's term ended, sellers and buyers had to re-negotiate or re-purchase from scratch. That meant it was possible to forget a renewal and end up with an unintended lapse in a subscription.
What changes
As long as both sides agree, negotiated pricing and contract terms can now carry forward automatically at renewal. This cuts procurement overhead and helps prevent unintended subscription lapses.
When creating an offer, sellers can choose how renewal pricing works.
- Renew with no price change
- Renew with a fixed price change
- Renew with a price change within a defined range
Buyers can opt in or out of auto-renewal when they first accept the offer, and they can update that preference later as their needs change.
Dive Deep
Before a subscription renews automatically, AWS Marketplace notifies both parties and shows a comparison between the current terms and the upcoming ones, including any pricing changes. Either party can opt out before the renewal decision deadline.
Buyers can also map a purchase order to any renewal, which helps keep internal procurement controls intact. Once a renewal completes successfully, both parties get notified.
This capability is now generally available in all commercial AWS Regions for sellers creating direct private offers with contract pricing, and it requires no additional setup or onboarding.
Wrap-up
- Private offers now support auto-renewal, removing the need to re-negotiate or re-purchase at term end
- Sellers can choose from three renewal pricing options: no change, a fixed change, or a change within a defined range
- Buyers can opt in or out at any time
- Both parties get notified before renewal, with a terms comparison, and can opt out before the deadline
- Purchase orders can be mapped to renewals, keeping procurement controls in place
This is a welcome update for anyone selling or buying software and services through AWS Marketplace!
