What was announced?
AWS What's New announced that second-generation AWS Outposts racks are now supported in the Asia Pacific (Mumbai) Region. Outposts racks extend AWS infrastructure, services, APIs, and tools to virtually any on-premises data center or colocation space.
Why it matters
Until now, the regions you could connect an Outposts order to were limited. With Mumbai added to the list, organizations from startups to enterprises and the public sector, both in and outside India, can now order Outposts connected to the Mumbai Region to match their latency and data residency needs.
What changes
With Outposts, you can run workloads that need low-latency access to on-premises systems locally, while still managing your applications from your home Region, a hybrid setup that gives you the best of both worlds.
Organizations that need to keep data on-premises for data residency requirements can also combine Outposts with AWS services to manage and process that data. This expansion widens the list of Regions customers can choose to connect their Outposts to.
