EC2 C8i and C8i-flex Finally Arrive in Europe's Sovereign Cloud!
Hey everyone, it's me, Shii-chan!
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
According to AWS What's New, Amazon EC2 C8i and C8i-flex instances are now available in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud (Germany) region. C8i and C8i-flex are compute-optimized instances powered by custom Intel Xeon 6 processors that are only available on AWS.
The story so far
C8i and C8i-flex were already available in other regions, and now that lineup has expanded to the AWS European Sovereign Cloud (Germany) region — a nice step for anyone who needs their data and compute to stay within the EU under sovereign cloud requirements.
What changes
This region now gets the same performance gains as everywhere else:
- Up to 15% better price-performance compared to previous-generation Intel-based instances
- 2.5x more memory bandwidth than the previous generation
- Up to 20% higher performance than C7i and C7i-flex, with even higher gains for specific workloads
- Up to 60% faster for NGINX, 35% faster for Memcached, and up to 40% faster for AI deep learning recommendation models
If you're running web/application servers, databases, caches, Kafka, or Elasticsearch in Germany's sovereign cloud, this should make a real difference.
Dive Deep
C8i-flex offers the common sizes from large to 16xlarge, making it a great first choice for workloads that don't fully use all their compute resources. C8i offers all 13 sizes, including 2 bare metal sizes, plus the newly added 96xlarge size for the largest applications — a good fit for workloads with continuous high CPU usage.
Wrap-up
- Amazon EC2 C8i and C8i-flex are now available in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud (Germany) region
- Custom Intel Xeon 6 processors, up to 15% better price-performance, 2.5x more memory bandwidth
- Up to 20% higher performance than C7i/C7i-flex, up to 60% faster for NGINX
- C8i-flex spans large to 16xlarge; C8i offers 13 sizes including bare metal and the new 96xlarge
If you're building sovereign-cloud infrastructure in Germany or the EU, this is worth a look!
