DynamoDB Accelerator (DAX) Arrives in Canada and Cape Town!

What was announced?

AWS What's New says Amazon DynamoDB Accelerator (DAX) is now available in two more Regions!

• Canada (Central)
• Africa (Cape Town)

Why it matters

DAX is a fully managed, highly available, in-memory cache for DynamoDB. According to the announcement, it delivers up to ten times performance improvement, from single-digit milliseconds to microseconds, even at millions of requests per second.

What changes

In these Regions you can keep cached data within the Region and still meet low-latency requirements. Patching and failover are automated, so you get the benefits of a fully managed service.

DAX is API-compatible with DynamoDB, so you can add microsecond-latency caching with minimal code changes. It also offloads read traffic from your DynamoDB tables.
