AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery can now protect your Graviton workloads too!

Hi there, it's me! Great news if you're running workloads on Graviton!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (AWS DRS) now supports disaster recovery for AWS Graviton-based (arm64) source servers. You can now protect and recover your Graviton workloads with the same simple, reliable DRS experience you already use for x86 workloads.

Why it matters

More workloads are moving to Graviton for its price-performance benefits, and those workloads need the same disaster recovery coverage as the rest of your environment. This update closes that gap.

What changes

DRS now automatically detects arm64 source servers and recovers them onto Graviton instances. Recovery works exactly the same way it does for your other servers, with nothing extra to configure, and your workload's architecture is preserved end to end.

Dive Deep

This capability is available in all AWS Regions where AWS DRS is offered, at no additional cost. Check the AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery User Guide for more details.

Wrap-up

  • AWS DRS now supports Graviton-based (arm64) source servers
  • It auto-detects arm64 servers and recovers them onto Graviton instances
  • No extra configuration and no additional cost — same experience as x86
  • Great if you've already moved workloads to Graviton or are planning to!
