S3 Express One Zone Expands to 7 More Regions — Now 15 Total!

Hey everyone, it's me! I found some great storage news from AWS today: Amazon S3 Express One Zone is now available in even more regions!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, the Amazon S3 Express One Zone storage class is now available in 7 additional AWS Regions. Here's the list of newly added regions:

  • Asia Pacific (Singapore)
  • South America (Sao Paulo)
  • US West (N. California)
  • Canada (Central)
  • Europe (Paris)
  • Asia Pacific (Sydney)
  • Asia Pacific (Seoul)

With this expansion, S3 Express One Zone is now available in a total of 15 AWS Regions.

The story so far

S3 Express One Zone is a high-performance storage class built around a single Availability Zone (AZ), but until now it was only available in a limited set of regions. If your workloads ran in a region it hadn't reached yet, you simply couldn't use it. This 7-region expansion significantly widens its reach.

What changes

If you're running systems in any of the 7 newly supported regions (Singapore, Sao Paulo, N. California, Canada Central, Paris, Sydney, or Seoul), you can now use S3 Express One Zone's low-latency storage locally, without routing through a different region. That means you get to take advantage of its fast access without worrying about cross-region latency or data transfer.

Dive Deep

S3 Express One Zone concentrates storage in a single AZ to deliver consistent single-digit millisecond data access. Here's what the announcement highlights:

  • Data access speed: up to 10x faster than S3 Standard
  • Request costs: up to 80% lower than S3 Standard
  • Latency: consistent single-digit millisecond data access

The key use cases called out are:

  • Machine learning training
  • Interactive analytics
  • Key-value caching in AI search engines

Wrap-up

  • S3 Express One Zone is now available in 7 new regions (Singapore, Sao Paulo, N. California, Canada Central, Paris, Sydney, Seoul)
  • Total availability now stands at 15 AWS Regions
  • Up to 10x faster data access and up to 80% lower request costs than S3 Standard
  • Great fit for ML training, interactive analytics, and AI search caching workloads

If you're looking for low-latency storage in one of these regions, this is well worth checking out!
