DNS Record Limits Go Account-Wide: Distribute Records Across Zones However You Like!

Hey there, it's me, Shiichan! Today I found a quiet-but-lovely little DNS update to share with you.

What was announced?

Over on Cloudflare's Changelog, they announced account-level DNS record quotas for Enterprise accounts. Instead of a limit set per zone, you can now manage your record count across your whole account.

The story so far

Until now, the record limit was fixed per zone in DNS. So if one zone filled up, you were stuck even if your other zones had plenty of room to spare.

What changes

With an account-level quota enabled, you only need to watch the total record count across all your zones. How many records you put in each zone is entirely up to you, regardless of that zone's plan. Being able to shuffle records freely across zones is really handy when you're juggling lots of domains.

Dive Deep

The default quota counts public zones and internal zones separately, and each gets 1,000,000 records. The key point is that they're counted on their own rather than combined.

Also, accounts without an account-level quota are unaffected: existing per-zone quotas behave exactly as before. If you want the full details, check the DNS records quota docs.

Wrap-up
