Reserve DB instance capacity with Aurora and RDS On-Demand Capacity Reservations!
Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! Today's news is for database fans: an Aurora and RDS update!
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
AWS announced in What's New that Amazon Aurora and Amazon RDS now support On-Demand Capacity Reservations. You can reserve compute capacity for your DB instances in one or more Availability Zones for as long as you need it.
The story so far
The announcement doesn't describe the previous setup. What it does say is that the goal of reservations is to keep DB instance operations from failing because of insufficient capacity.
What changes
With a reservation, these operations are protected from failing due to insufficient capacity:
- Create
- Restore
- Scale compute
- Start
It's designed for business-critical events where you need that assurance:
- Migrations
- Product launches
- Seasonal peaks
- High-availability deployments
- Disaster recovery
Dive Deep
