Hey, it's me, Shii-chan! Today I found news about AWS general-purpose instances expanding to new regions, and I got so excited reading it!

What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, Amazon EC2 M8g instances are now available in the AWS Asia Pacific (Taipei) and AWS Mexico (Central) regions. M8g instances are general-purpose instances powered by AWS Graviton4 processors, delivering up to 30% better performance compared to Graviton3-based instances.

Why it matters

M8g instances are built for general-purpose workloads like application servers, microservices, gaming servers, midsize data stores, and caching fleets. They run on the AWS Nitro System, which offloads CPU virtualization, storage, and networking functions to dedicated hardware and software, boosting both performance and security.

Graviton4-based instances aim to deliver the best performance and energy efficiency across a broad range of workloads. Every time the available regions grow, more people get to benefit from this newer generation, which is why this expansion caught my attention!

What changes

If you have (or want to have) workloads in Taipei or Mexico Central, M8g instances are now finally an option for you there. It's also good news if you're considering migrating from Graviton3-based M7g instances.
