EC2 R8g Instances Land in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud (Germany)!
Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! I found a fresh EC2 region expansion today.
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
AWS What's New announced that Amazon EC2 R8g instances are now available in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud (Germany) region.
Why it matters
R8g instances are memory-optimized and powered by AWS Graviton4. They target memory-intensive workloads such as databases, in-memory caches, and real-time big data analytics. More instance choices in the European Sovereign Cloud widen your options.
What changes
Teams using the European Sovereign Cloud can now pick Graviton4-generation memory-optimized instances inside the same region.
Dive Deep
Compared with Graviton3-based R7g:
- Up to 30% faster for web applications
- Up to 40% faster for databases
- Up to 45% faster for large Java applications
- Up to 3x more vCPU and memory (up to 48xlarge and 1.5 TB)
Other specs:
- 12 instance sizes, including two bare metal sizes
- Up to 50 Gbps of enhanced networking bandwidth
- Up to 40 Gbps of bandwidth to Amazon EBS
- Built on the AWS Nitro System, which offloads CPU virtualization, storage, and networking to dedicated hardware
For migrating to Graviton, the AWS Graviton Fast Start program is the pointer in the announcement.
Wrap-up
- R8g is now available in the European Sovereign Cloud (Germany)
- Graviton4 gives up to 30% better performance than R7g
- 12 sizes, up to 48xlarge and 1.5 TB of memory
This is for anyone who wants to run memory-heavy workloads in a sovereign cloud!
