EC2 R8gd with Local NVMe Arrives in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud (Germany)!
Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! After R8g, the local-storage variant R8gd has arrived too.
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
AWS What's New announced that Amazon EC2 R8gd instances are now available in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud (Germany) region.
Why it matters
R8gd is powered by Graviton4 and comes with local NVMe SSD storage, which suits applications that need high-speed, low-latency local storage. Now you can pick that combination in the sovereign cloud too.
What changes
In the European Sovereign Cloud, workloads that rely on fast block-level local storage can run on Graviton4-generation instances.
Dive Deep
- Up to 11.4 TB of local NVMe-based SSD block-level storage
- Up to 30% better performance than Graviton3-based instances
- Built on the AWS Nitro System
- 12 sizes, up to 50 Gbps of network bandwidth, and up to 40 Gbps to Amazon EBS
- Network and EBS bandwidth can be adjusted by 25% using EC2 instance bandwidth weighting
- Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) is available on 24xlarge, 48xlarge, metal-24xl, and metal-48xl
Bandwidth weighting lets you shift bandwidth between networking and EBS to fit your workload.
Wrap-up
- R8gd is now available in the European Sovereign Cloud (Germany)
- Up to 11.4 TB of local NVMe SSD with Graviton4
- Supports 25% bandwidth adjustment through bandwidth weighting
This is for anyone who needs low-latency local storage!
