What was announced?
AWS What's New announced that Amazon Elastic VMware Service (Amazon EVS) is now available in four additional regions: Asia Pacific (Osaka), Asia Pacific (Taipei), Europe (Spain), and Israel (Tel Aviv).
Why it matters
Amazon EVS lets you run VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) directly inside your Amazon VPC, on EC2 bare-metal instances backed by AWS Nitro. You can stand up a full VCF environment in just a few hours, which is a big help for companies migrating off aging data centers under tight timelines or risk constraints.
What changes
The new regions bring a few concrete benefits:
- Lower latency for workloads running closer to end users in those regions
- Easier compliance with data residency or sovereignty requirements in those areas
- More options for redundancy and high-availability design
