Hi, it's Shii-chan! A feature that makes finding S3 data easier just reached more places.

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

AWS What's New says Amazon S3 Metadata is now available in six additional Regions:

  • Asia Pacific (Hyderabad)
  • Asia Pacific (Malaysia)
  • Asia Pacific (New Zealand)
  • Asia Pacific (Taipei)
  • Asia Pacific (Thailand)
  • Mexico (Central)

With this launch, S3 Metadata is generally available in 38 AWS Regions.

What changes

S3 Metadata is a fast way to discover and understand your S3 data with automated, easily queried metadata that updates in near real time. It populates metadata for both new and existing objects, helping you curate and use your data for business analytics, real-time inference apps, and more. Now you can use it with data in the Regions above!

Dive Deep

S3 Metadata has an extension called annotations:

  • Attach business context directly to objects in JSON, XML, or YAML
  • Up to 1 GB per object
  • To query annotations at scale, surface them in S3 Metadata annotation tables (available in these Regions too)

See the S3 pricing page for pricing, and the product page and documentation for details.

Wrap-up

  • Six new Regions (five in Asia Pacific, one in Mexico)
  • Generally available in 38 Regions
  • Near-real-time metadata for new and existing objects
  • Annotations let you attach up to 1 GB of context per object

Good news if you manage S3 data in these Regions!
