What was announced?
AWS What's New announced the preview of AWS Interconnect - last mile with Megaport. It is a fully managed connectivity offering for connecting branch offices, data centers, and remote locations to AWS.
Megaport operates one of the world's largest SDNs, with 1,200+ enabled data centers across 31 countries.
What changes
Much less network setup work. In the AWS Management Console you choose:
- AWS Region
- Bandwidth speed
- Direct Connect Gateway ID
- Partner subscriber ID
Then AWS generates an activation key to complete provisioning with Megaport.
Dive Deep
Capacity is pre-provisioned and complex configuration is automated:
- BGP peering
- VLAN configuration
- ASN assignment
At GA, you will be able to scale bandwidth dynamically from 1 Gbps to 100 Gbps in the console. The service is designed for high availability with zero down-time maintenance and a 99.99% SLA.
In preview it is available in the San Jose (us-west-1) and N. Virginia (us-east-1) metros through Megaport. You can create a preview Interconnect using the console, the CLI, and more.
