AWS Capabilities by Region Adds Feature-Level Notifications and Advanced Filters
Hi, it's Shii-chan! Good news if you've ever wondered when a feature will reach your Region.
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
In AWS What's New, AWS announced feature-level availability notifications and advanced filters for AWS Capabilities by Region in AWS Builder Center.
The story so far
You had to look up which features were available in each Region and compare them yourself. According to the post, there are over 19,000 API operations and more than 5,000 CloudFormation resource types, so finding differences in a full listing was hard.
What changes
- You can set availability notifications for an AWS service, or for an individual feature, in the Regions you care about
- You get an in-app notification and a weekly email digest of capabilities that became available since you enabled notifications
- You can filter API operations and CloudFormation resources by availability status
- You can compare Regions to show all capabilities, only matching ones, or only differences
Dive Deep
Details on notifications:
- Setting a notification for a service covers every feature within it
- The "All regions" option covers every Region, including Regions that launch in the future
The filters work alongside search and existing display preferences.
Requirements:
- Comparing capabilities requires no account
- Setting up availability notifications requires a Builder ID, which is free
Wrap-up
- Feature-level availability notifications (in-app and weekly email)
- "All regions" covers future Regions too
- Filter API operations and CloudFormation resources by availability
- Region comparison can show only the differences
This is handy if you are planning to expand into a new Region or design across Regions!
