Capacity Reservation Resource Groups Now Support All EC2 Reservation Types!

What was announced?

According to the AWS What's New, Amazon EC2's Capacity Reservation Resource Groups now support EC2 Capacity Blocks for ML and interruptible Capacity Reservations!

The story so far

Previously, a Capacity Reservation Resource Group could only include On-Demand Capacity Reservations (ODCRs). Since each reservation type lived in its own separate world, it was inconvenient to manage multiple reservation types together.

What changes

Now you can add any of these reservation types to the same Capacity Reservation Resource Group:

• On-Demand Capacity Reservations (ODCRs)
• EC2 Capacity Blocks for ML
• Interruptible Capacity Reservations

Just create a group, add your reservations to it, and target that group in your launch request. Treating your whole portfolio of reserved capacity as one group makes it much easier to decide where to launch your EC2 instances.

Dive Deep

If you use EC2 Fleet or EC2 Auto Scaling groups, you can also set prioritization preferences across reservation types, and configure automatic fallback to EC2 On-Demand capacity when your reservations run out.

There's no additional charge for this feature. It's available in every AWS Region where Capacity Blocks for ML and interruptible ODCRs are supported, excluding AWS GovCloud (US) and the China Regions.
