DataSync Enhanced mode now supports FSx for OpenZFS, NFS 4.2, and object metadata controls
Hi, it's Shii-chan!
AWS What's NewAWS DataSync, the data transfer service, got a nice update!
What was announced?
According to AWS What's New, DataSync Enhanced mode gained three things:
- Amazon FSx for OpenZFS as a source or destination location
- NFS version 4.2 for on-premises NFS servers and FSx for OpenZFS file systems
- A new
ObjectMetadataoption for object storage transfers
The story so far
Transfers to or from FSx for OpenZFS were limited to Basic mode. And to transfer from NFS servers on the latest version, you had to reconfigure them to an older protocol version.
What changes
- You can use Enhanced mode for FSx for OpenZFS transfers
- You can transfer from NFS 4.2 servers without downgrading them
- You can choose whether an object's user metadata is copied
Dive Deep
The ObjectMetadata option controls whether an object's user metadata is copied to the destination. Two use cases are mentioned:
- When destination metadata must stay intact, such as buckets served by AWS Storage Gateway
- When source metadata keys are not compatible with the destination, such as Azure Blob Storage
Existing tasks are unaffected and keep running as scheduled. These capabilities are available for Enhanced mode tasks in all AWS Regions where DataSync Enhanced mode is supported.
Wrap-up
- FSx for OpenZFS works with Enhanced mode
- NFS 4.2 is supported
ObjectMetadatacontrols metadata copying- Existing tasks are not affected
This one is for anyone planning migrations from OpenZFS or newer NFS servers!
