EC2 C8gd and M8gd Expand to Stockholm, Mumbai, Seoul and More!

Hi, it's Shii-chan! Today I found news about EC2 instances arriving in more regions, so let me share it with you!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

AWS What's New announced that Amazon EC2 C8gd and M8gd instances are now available in additional regions.

  • C8gd: Europe (Stockholm), Asia Pacific (Mumbai), Asia Pacific (Seoul)
  • M8gd: Europe (Stockholm), US West (N. California), Asia Pacific (Singapore)

Both are powered by AWS Graviton4 processors and come with up to 11.4 TB of local NVMe-based SSD block storage.

Why it matters

Instances with local storage are meant for apps that need fast, low-latency disks. The closer your data is to where you use it, the better, so more regions means more places to choose from.

What changes

You can now run databases and real-time analytics on this combination in regions where it wasn't available before. If you already know which region your data must live in, you can pick Graviton4 with local SSD there.

Dive Deep

Here are the specs and performance claims from the source.

  • Up to 30% better performance than Graviton3-based instances
  • Up to 40% higher performance for I/O intensive database workloads
  • Up to 20% faster query results for I/O intensive real-time data analytics
  • 12 sizes available
  • Up to 50 Gbps of network bandwidth and up to 40 Gbps of Amazon EBS bandwidth
  • EC2 instance bandwidth weighting lets you adjust network and EBS bandwidth by 25%
  • Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) is available on 24xlarge, 48xlarge, metal-24xl, and metal-48xl

The suggested workloads are also listed.

  • C8gd: compute-intensive workloads (web servers, batch processing, analytics, video encoding, game servers, and so on)
  • M8gd: workloads that need a balance of compute and memory (application servers, microservices, enterprise apps, small to medium databases, and so on)

Wrap-up

  • C8gd is available in Stockholm, Mumbai, and Seoul
  • M8gd is available in Stockholm, N. California, and Singapore
  • Graviton4 with up to 11.4 TB of local NVMe SSD
  • Supports the 25% bandwidth adjustment setting

This one is for anyone who wants Graviton4 with local SSD in a region close to their users!
