MediaConnect Router adds an endpoint registry for simpler cross-account live video
Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan!
AWS What's NewHere's news that makes sharing live video across accounts easier!
What was announced?
According to AWS What's New, AWS Elemental MediaConnect Router now manages external connections through a new endpoint registry.
You can register and manage two kinds of things in it:
- Standard endpoints: devices or software outside the service, such as cameras, sources, monitors, and other destinations
- Connections to other AWS accounts
Registered endpoints can be shared directly with other AWS accounts.
The story so far
Working across accounts meant manually chaining router inputs and outputs, coordinating IP addresses out of band, and managing connection security yourself.
What changes
According to the announcement:
- Fewer compute instances are needed, which lowers costs
- Fewer network hops mean lower latency
- No more manual chaining of router inputs and outputs
- No more out-of-band IP address coordination
The use cases mentioned include content distributors sharing live feeds with downstream partners and broadcasters collaborating across organizational boundaries.
Dive Deep
Three key pieces:
- Cross-account sharing through AWS Resource Access Manager (AWS RAM)
- Transparent verification of encryption and protocol controls
- Built-in connection management with Connection Manager
It's available in all AWS Regions where MediaConnect Router is available, at no additional cost.
Wrap-up
- A new endpoint registry manages external connections in one place
- Share endpoints directly with other accounts via AWS RAM
- Expect lower costs and lower latency
- No additional cost
This is for anyone who needs to move live video securely to partners or other accounts!
