Hello, it's me, Shiichan! Today's a quick one from AWS What's New — good news if you use EC2 Spot.

What was announced?

AWS What's New announced that Spot Placement Score now supports AWS Local Zones. Spot Placement Score evaluates your target capacity and compute requirements and returns scores for AWS Regions or Availability Zones, and now it can factor in Local Zones too.

The story so far

Previously, Spot placement scores excluded Local Zone capacity information when reporting zonal and regional scores, so if you wanted to run Spot workloads in a Local Zone, this score alone couldn't tell you much.

What changes

You can now optionally request that Local Zones be included in the zonal and regional score responses, giving you a broader view of your Spot capacity options across Regions, Availability Zones, and Local Zones together.

Dive Deep

Nothing changes about how you access it — Spot Placement Score is still available through the EC2 Spot Console, the AWS CLI, or an SDK. This is a straightforward extension: an option to include Local Zones in the results. Check the Spot placement score documentation for the details.
